THE MISSION OF THE
OGDENSBURG FIRE DEPARTMENT IS TO
PROVIDE THE SAFEST ENVIRONMENT WITHIN WHICH THE
CITIZENS OF THE COMMUNITY CAN LIVE AND WORK WITH THE
LEAST AMOUNT OF INJURY, LOSS OF LIFE OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY
The City of Ogdensburg
Fire Department is housed in one building centrally located at 718 Ford
Street. The building was constructed in 1976 and replaced the
previous four "ward" firehouses. We regularly host
events such as rabies clinics, voting for primaries and regular
elections, child safety seat clinics, etc. Tours by schools and
other groups are easily scheduled by calling 393-2321. Sparky the
Fire Prevention Dog is available during tours and regularly makes off
premises visits by request. The building is dedicated to the
memory of Frederick J. Hynes, an Ogdensburg Firefighter who died in the
line of duty on October 25, 1934.
Besides firefighting duties, we are a non-transporting EMS agency with
21
EMT-Ds and 4 AEMTIs who assist the
Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue
Squad. Our EMS response vehicle carries a
defibrillator. In 2003 we responded to 986 EMS calls. The Department's
EMS program began in 1989 under the direction of then Chief Richard E.
Fournier and has continually progress since. Department members were first
trained as Certified First Responders and during ensuing years have advanced
to the status of EMT-d and AEMTI. In May 2002 the NYS DOH certified the
Ogdensburg Fire Department at the ILS level of EMS care. This certification
allows our AEMT-1s to begin IVs and intubate
patients.
