The Ogdensburg Police Department is a 24-hour, seven day a week, full-service department, which serves a population of approximately 13,000, covering 8 square miles.
The Department is comprised of 28 sworn officers, along with 5 full-time civilian personnel. Also under the auspices of the Police Department are the Dog Control Officer, Bingo Inspector, and Nuisance Animal Control.
The Department is headed by Chief of Police Richard Polniak, and is generally divided into Patrol and Investigative functions. The Patrol Unit consists of (1) Lieutenant, (4) Sergeants, (17) Patrolmen, and (4) Dispatchers. The Investigative Unit consists of (1) Lieutenant, (1) Detective Sergeant, (2) Detectives, and (1) Juvenile Aid Officer.

In addition to routine Patrol and Investigations, the Department has specialized units which include Bicycle Patrol, Boat Patrol, Arson Investigation, Accident Investigation, DARE, and Narcotics. The Juvenile Aid officer is a full-time position serving the youth of the community.
The Police Department handles an average of 10,500 calls per year. The Department also averages 1,000 custodial arrests, 1,400 traffic tickets, and 2,000 parking summons per year.
