Q. When do you pick up brush?
A.
The DPW has a spring clean-up and fall pick-up at which times the department picks up debris throughout the City. Otherwise, the DPW picks up on a call in basis only. Scheduled pick up is usually on Fridays, but if the list gets long or if we can't finish the list on Friday, we will pick up another day during the week when time permits.

Q. What do you pick up?
A.
Brush, branches, tree trunks up to 6" in diameter and 6' in length, leaves, and grass clippings. These items must be placed along the curb line in a way that does not obstruct traffic.

Q. What time does the transfer station open?
A.
Most people believe that the City owns the transfer station. We do have our own landfill at the end of Champlain Street, but the transfer station, located on the Wagner Road, belongs to the County and questions should be referred to them by calling 315-393-7501.

The City will accept metal goods (stoves, hot water heaters, etc.- no refrigerators or freezers accepted), at no charge, at the City-owned landfill on Champlain Street. Please leave items next to the dump bin as you go thru the gate. The gate opens at approximately 8:00 a.m. and closes around 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Q. How much does it cost for a new sidewalk?
A.
The City shares the cost with the homeowner and at the present time it is $2.00 a square foot for 4" and $2.25 a sq. ft. for 6" sidewalk that is placed in front of a driveway.

Q. How long will it be before I get my sidewalk once it is put on the list?
A.
Currently, it will be approximately one year. There are other options however. You may have a contractor replace your sidewalk and the City will reimburse you $2.00 a sq. ft. for 4" and $2.25 a sq. ft. for 6" sidewalk or you can replace it yourself, with supervision from the City, and also be reimbursed for this amount.

Q. Can I get some top dirt?
A.
The City will top dirt and grass seed any area between the sidewalk and curb that has been damaged. You must call the DPW and be placed on a list.

Q. Will the City repair water or sewer pipes in my home?
A.
Although the property owner is responsible for their water service and sewer lateral from their house to the mains in the street, the City will, for a fee, repair water lines from the house to the main and sewer lines from the property line to the main. The DPW will not repair any pipes within the house.

Q. Can the City run sewer rods to unplug sewer laterals?
A.
No, the City is not able to assist with a blockage on private property. This service is provided by private contractors.

Q. Will the DPW take a tree down or remove a stump in my yard?
A.
The DPW will cut and trim City trees and remove stumps between the sidewalk and the curb or the City right-of-way. We cannot cut or trim trees on private property. If you have a City tree that needs attention, call the DPW at 393-2300 or 393-2010, and we will put you on a service call list.
