SUMMER RECREATION PROGRAMS (2009 SCHEDULE) - Click here to see the Parks & Rec calendar.  To sign up for any of the exciting summer recreation programs, we ask that parents fill out the registration form and return it to the City's Recreation Office.  Click here to download application/registration forms.

Boy’s Basketball: : Ogdensburg Free Academy's Varsity Coach Bill Merna will conduct the 27th Annual Boys' Basketball Camp for grades 4-12 at O.F.A. Skill development will be stressed, including fundamentals in passing, dribbling and shooting. Intramural games will be held.

When: Monday - Friday, July 20-24, 9 a.m. - Noon
Where:  OFA Big Gym
Fee: $25, includes T-shirt

Girl’s Basketball: Shannon Lafave will conduct the 21st Annual Girls' Basketball Camp for grades 4-12 at Ogdensburg Free Academy. Skill development will be stressed, including fundamentals in passing, dribbling and shooting. Intramural games will be held.

When: Monday - Friday, July 27-31, 9 a.m. - Noon
Where:  OFA Big Gym
Fee: $25, includes T-shirt

Football: Ogdensburg Free Academy's coaching staff will conduct the 16th Annual Football Skills Camp. Camp will include daily warm-up exercises, non-contact drills, running, ball handling, carrying, throwing/receiving, blocking and tackling, punting, kicking and field instruction. All campers will be instructed in flexibility, quickness and agility conditioning. A Punt, Pass & Kick Contest, as well as a Fastest Runner Event, will be conducted on Friday, August 1 for Session I.

Who: Youths ages 11-18
When: Monday - Friday, 6:00 - 8:30 p.m.
Session I - July 13-16 - Ages 11-14
Session II - August 10-14 - Ages 15-18
Where: OFA Practice Field
Fee: $20 per session

 

Gymnastics:  Jackie Pinkerton will conduct gymnastics for boys and girls ages 4-9 who will be provided the opportunity to learn the basics of this Olympic sport. Activities include pommel horse, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise.

     When: Monday - Friday, July 27 - July 31, 8:30 - 11:30 a.m
         Ages 4-6 - 8:30-10:00
         Ages 7-9 - 10:00-11:30
     Where: Kennedy Elementary School
     Fee: $20

Cheerleading Camp: Jackie Pinkerton will conduct our 11th Annual Cheerleading Camp for girls ages 4-12.  Cheerleading is an integral part of sports team's success. Competitions have become extremely popular in recent years.

When: Monday - Friday, 10 a.m. - 12 noon
   July 20-24 - Ages 4-7
   August 3-7 - Ages 8-12
Where: Golden Dome
Fee: $25 per session, includes T-shirt

Track: Ogdensburg Free Academy's Track Coach John Tebo will conduct our 10th Annual Track Camp for boys and girls grades 2-7. Activities include: high & long jump, shot-put, discus, hurdles and relays.

When: Monday - Friday, June 29 - July 3, 9 - 11 a.m.
Where: OFA Track
Fee: $25, includes T-shirt

Hockey: Ogdensburg Free Academy's Varsity Hockey coach Jon Fredericks will direct an off-ice hockey camp at the Richard G. Lockwood Civic Center. Camp will include off-ice training, conditioning, shooting, face-offs and small games. There will be contests in the following categories: Most Accurate Shooter, Fastest Stick Handler in Obstacle Course.

Who: Youths ages 6-12
When: Monday - Friday, August 3-78, 9 - 11 a.m.
Where: Richard G. Lockwood Civic Center
Fee: $25, includes T-shirt

Soccer: Instruction will be offered in all phases of this sport. Boys and girls ages 4-15 can enhance skills through small group instruction and intramural games.

When: Monday - Friday, 9:00 - 11:30 a.m.
Session I - July 13-17 - Ages 4-7
Session II - July 20-24 - Ages 8-15
Where: Kennedy Elementary School
Fee: $25 per session, includes T-shirt

Baseball/Softball: Ogdensburg Free Academy's coaches Tom Pinkerton, Mike Sargent and staff will conduct our baseball/softball camp for boys and girls ages 9-12. The camp will stress developing better hitting and fielding and pitching skills for both baseball and softball. Intramural games will be held daily.

When: Monday-Friday, July 6-10, 1 - 4 p.m.
Where: Montroy Park
Fee: $25, includes T-shirt

Swim Camp: Ogdensburg Free Academy's coach John Tebo will conduct our 9th Annual swim camp which will be held at the Elsa M. Luksich Municipal Pool. The camp will feature instruction in the free, back, breast and butterfly strokes. Contest for individual and group events will be held at the end of camp.  Child must be experienced/strong swimmer (intermediate or above) capable of doing laps.  Instruction will go from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. followed by practice time and laps from 10:30 - 11:00 a.m.

When: : Monday - Friday, August 3-7 - 9-11 a.m.
Where: Elsa M. Luksich Municipal Pool
Fee: $20

Swimming Lessons: : Swimming lessons will be offered for all skill levels. The instructors are fully certified and will offer the standard Red Cross Program. Each child will be placed in a half hour time slot determined on the testing days.

   Who: Youths ages 4-14
         (under 4 must be accompanied by a parent)
   When: Monday - Friday, 8:00 - 11:30 a.m.
   June 26 and June 29: Testing/Group Assignments
   July 1- July 31: Lessons
   Where: Elsa M. Luksich Municipal Pool
   Fee: $20


Lacrosse Camp:  Our 4th annual camp for boys and girls, will stress the development of lacrosse skills including:  passing, catching, attack, defense and goal tending.  Those participating in this camp should have lacrosse sticks and helmets.

Who:  Youths ages 6-15
When: Monday - Friday, July 13-17, 9:00 - 11 a.m.
Where: Father Martin Field
Fee: $25, includes T-shirt

Wrestling:  Wrestling Technique Camp will include daily warm ups and conditioning exercise, escapes, reversals, take down and pinning combinations. There will be a mini tournament on Friday. NO wrestling experience necessary. The camp promotes self-esteem and good sportsmanship. Instructors: Wes Snover and Ricky Ledwith.

         Who: Youths ages 5-18
         When: Monday - Friday, July 27 - July 31,  5:30 - 8:30 p.m.
         Where: Richard G. Lockwood Civic Center
         Fee: $25, includes T-shirt

Tennis Lessons: Instructors will teach the basics in tennis, including serving, ground strokes, returns and footwork.

Who: Boys and girls grades 4-12
When: Monday - Friday, June 29 - July 31, 9 a.m. - Noon
Where: OFA Courts
Fee: $20

Sharing and Learning:  Started in the early 1980's, the Recreation Department's Sharing and Learning program has been a tremendous success being applauded by parents and educators. This program will be run by Amy Sweeney and is dedicated to an informal atmosphere for boys and girls, ages 4, 5 and 6, that encourages creativity and learning. Activities include songs, games, story time, arts and crafts, movies, circle-time, walking tours, plus much more.  Lunch will be served.  Please bring a birth certificate when you register!


When: Monday - Friday, July 1 - August 7, 8:30 am - Noon
Where: Madill Elementary School Cafeteria
Fee: $60 / $35 for each additional child.         Enrollment is limited.

Summer Activities Program: Alyssa Farrell will run the summer activities program, which provides youth ages 6-12 with fun filled games, field trips, exciting arts & crafts, contests, playground time, movies, sports, special events and a morning snack.  Rain or shine this program is offered.  To sign up for this exciting program, we ask that parents fill out the waiver form and return it to our office or bring it to the Civic Center on your child's first visit.

Who: Boys and Girls, ages 6-12
When: Monday - Friday, July 1 - August 7, 8:30 a.m. - Noon
Where: Richard G. Lockwood Civic Center
Fee: $60.00/$35.00 each additional child

Arts & Crafts: NY Avenue Park, Grove Street Park, Hamilton Park, Kids Kingdom, Belmont Courts, Lockwood Arena.  Exciting summer fun for youths ages 3-21.  Draw, paint, build and create fun arts and crafts.  This program will run Monday-Friday, June 29 - August 78.  Please check the paper for times and locations.  The Richard G. Lockwood Civicl Center will now be offered for rain days.

Be Creative Day 2009:  On Thursday, August 6, children are invited to Be Creative Day!  The Ogdensburg Parks and Recreation Department has joined the Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club, Eva Caten Remington Kids Place, and the Ogdensburg Public Library to hold this event. On the agenda will be arts & crafts, games, music, refreshments and much more.  All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Biddy Basketball: Saturday mornings at the O.F.A. gyms from 8:00 - 11:00 AM. Begins on December 1, 2007, and ends February 2, 2008. Fee: $10.00

Gymnastics: Introductory gymnastics for youth, ages 4-8, on Saturdays at the Kennedy School gym. Program begins January 5, 2008, and runs each Saturday through March 1, 2008. Youths ages 4-6 from 9:00 - 10:00 AM, and ages 7-8 from 10:00 - 11:00 AM. Fee: $25.00

OPEN SWIMMING

On Sundays, From 1:00 - 3:00 pm at the O.F.A. pool (begins November 18, 2007). An adult must accompany children. Fee: $.50 for children and $1.00 for adults (over the age of 18).

PUBLIC ICE SKATING

The Ogdensburg Recreation Department will be offering public ice skating at the Richard G. Lockwood Civic Center. Please look for a weekly schedule on our Recreation Calendar. The Calendar provides dates and times for all events. There is No Charge for public skating. Please Note: All children under the age of seven will be required to wear protective headgear (helmet).

Children's Popcorn Flicks/Arts & Crafts: All boys and girls are invited to the Community Center to enjoy VCR movies and indulge in some hot buttered popcorn and a cool drink, and then make some interesting and fun Arts & Crafts.  Please look for dates on our Recreation Calendar or in the local newspaper.
